Jeffrey Cheung is one of Canadian Web Hosting’s trusty Data Centre Technicians. He spends his time in between the office and our downtown data centre making sure that all the servers are running smoothly. He’s been with the company for almost a decade and has watched it grow in size from a maple seedling to a fully grown maple tree. Along with being our Data Centre Technician, he’s also the friendly neighborhood IT guy around the office. From hooking up the new person with the office Wi-Fi password, to checking out why your computer suddenly shut down, to even giving you advice on which TV to get for your home, Jeff has your back. What brought you to CWH?
I initially joined the Customer Experience team at Canadian Web Hosting. I was an IT major at university and I wanted to get a job in a similar field.
What was your first impression of CWH?
When I first joined CWH, it was just a small web hosting company of 5-6 guys. It gave me a chance to learn different kinds of things and it was very hands-on. From troubleshooting to coding to email issues, I got to try it all.
Who was your favourite superhero growing up? Why?
I would say Iron Man. He’s just a regular guy who gets to be a superhero because he is rich and super smart.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be an actor and star in dramas.
What is one thing you’ve always wanted to do, but haven’t yet?
Retirement life! I’m ready to travel around the world.
What’s one thing you want everyone to know about you?
This probably won’t shock anyone, but I am a geek.
What is your favourite website? Why?
Google. One stop for everything!
What book are you currently reading?
I don’t read physical books. I like to go green and paperless 🙂 Usually, I read random articles on the web.
What is the nerdiest thing about you?
I’m all about computers, hardware, and gaming. I consider this normal though.

What is one unusual or interesting thing about you?
I like to D.I.Y., fix, or recycle old electronics or furniture and reuse them in some other way.

What is your favourite thing about being part of the CWH team?
Working with technology all of the time. Lots of hands-on work with new tech, hardware, networking gear, cameras, etc.

What is your favourite thing about working in the tech and web hosting industry?
Always staying up-to-date, being on top of trends, and the chance to be involved in many tech conferences.
What is the most interesting thing that has happened to you since working at CWH?
Watching the company grow from under 10 members to 60+ and upgrading offices. From a small and packed man cave to a big nice office in downtown Vancouver.
What is your favourite thing about being a Data Centre Technician?
I like coming into work every day. As you can probably tell by my answers above, I enjoy working with hardware, learning new things in tech, and tackling new challenges—being a Data Centre Technician at CWH fulfills all three.
