Google is launching its new and improved version of Google Hangouts with a slew of changes that redefine the messaging app. The first change includes splitting the app into two – Hangouts Meet and Hangouts Chat.

Hangouts Meet will become a video-conferencing app, which can support up to 30 people at a time via its desktop or mobile app. Google has also simplified the ways someone can join a call. Rather than utilize plugins, accounts or downloads, Google provides app users with a shared link that makes it easy to join a call, even for those who aren’t familiar with technology. Hangouts Chat has risen up to be a competitor of Slack, with many of its capabilities matching that of Slack. To sweeten the deal, the app also includes a bot that manages schedules for you.

With that being said, Microsoft has launched Microsoft Teams, while Slack attempts to stay ahead of the curve with its enterprise service for large organizations.
