Microsoft has released Office Web App Suite http://office.live.com in four countries, Canada, USA, UK and Ireland. Similar to its desktop version (but limited in features), users can now use a web browser to start viewing, editing, and sharing Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and One Note documents. All the documents are saved in the cloud at Microsoft data centers. Their cloud is called “SkyDrive”. I like it more than Google Docs as it allows seemless document transition from desktop to web without breaking the formatting. These developments put Microsoft’s Office Web Apps in contention with other similar online application suites such as Google Docs (docs.google.com), and Zoho’s (www.zoho.com). Best of all, it’s free.
